Description | Paeonia lactiflora, Latin name Paeonia lactiflora Pall, alias peony, Chinese peony ect. Peony is a famous Chinese herbal medicine that has been used for more than two thousand years, the root and, less commonly, the flower and seed are used to make medicine. During the Northern and Southern Dynasties (AD 420-581), peony was recorded as red peony and white peony,this does not mean the color of flowers, pink, red, purple or white, but the color of processed roots.
